  45.  
  46.         This file explains how to setup and to configure the ELSA
  47.         Windows NT driver software for your ELSA graphics board.
  48.  
  49. 1.1     Requirements
  50.  
  51.         This driver software runs on an ELSA Synergy II only.
  52.  
  53. 1.2     Further Information

  55.         For more information on configuring installed ELSA graphics
  56.         drivers, refer to the Windows Help or to the help files for
  57.         the ELSA Utilities.

  61. 2       Installation
  62.  
  63.         NOTE: This driver was designed for full functionality
  64.               under Windows NT 4.0 only!
  65.  
  66.         There are several ways to install the ELSA graphics driver:
  67.         - Automatic installation by ELSA Setup Utility  (2.1)
  68.         - Via the Windows dialog "Display Properties"   (2.2)
  69.  
  70.         NOTE: We recomend using the automatic installation!
  71.  
  72. 2.1     Automatic installation with the ELSA Setup Utility
  73.  
  74.         First of all, start Windows NT. To run SETUP.EXE then, you
  75.         can either double click on the filename in the Microsoft
  76.         Explorer or choose "Run..." in the "Start" menu. Then you
  77.         have to enter the complete path to the file "SETUP.EXE".
  78.         Confirm with "OK".
  79.  
  80.         NOTE: Please close all programs before running Setup -
  81.               especially other ELSA utilities.

  83. 2.1.1   Installation on an Intel(R) Pentium III system
  84.  
  85.         While installing the ELSA driver the program
  86.         CheckPentiumIIISupport may ask you to update your
  87.         Windows NT 4.0 installation. In this case you are using an
  88.         Intel(R) Pentium III processor, but the Intel(R) Streaming
  89.         SIMD extension driver for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 service
  90.         pack 4 is NOT installed. This additional driver is
  91.         required for ELSA SIMDream(TM). You'll find this necessary
  92.         Intel driver on the WINNERware-CD in the directory:
  93.         \WINWARE\MSAPPS\INTP3SUP\websetup.exe.
  94.  
  95.         Service Pack 5 already contains this driver.
  96.  
  97. 2.2     Manual Installation via Display Properties
  98.  
  99.         NOTE: First install the Standard-VGA driver, then shut down
  100.               your computer and exchange the graphics board with
  101.               the Synergy II.
  102.  
  103.         In the Taskbar/Start/Settings, click on "Control Panel" and
  104.         then select "Display Properties". Alternatively, you can
  105.         right-click the desktop and in the appearing popup menu,
  106.         select "Properties". Select "Settings" and then "Display
  107.         Type". In the upcoming window you can use the "Change"
  108.         button to select your ELSA graphics board. You will get the
  109.         "Change Display" dialog box with a variety of available
  110.         drivers.
  111.  
  112.         On the lower right-hand of the dialog box select the button
  113.         "Other...". The dialog "Install from disk" appears with an
  114.         indication of path or floppy drive ("A:\"). Change the
  115.         entry to the path where the driver files for your board are
  116.         located (e.g."\SynergyII\WINNT40") and confirm with
  117.         "Continue". Now a list of ELSA graphics drivers is
  118.         displayed. Select the driver for your board. Confirm the
  119.         dialog. The driver is installed after confirming the
  120.         warning that a third-party driver will be installed.
  121.  
  122.         NOTE: Under Windows NT 4.0, graphics drivers cannot be
  123.               loaded dynamically. This is a limitation of the
  124.               operating system.
  125.  
  126.         To activate the ELSA driver the computer has to be
  127.         restarted. Please press "Yes" in the upcoming dialog.
  128.         The system will reboot and the initial installation is
  129.         finished.
  130.  
  131.         The initial installation of ELSA drivers for Microsoft
  132.         Windows NT 4.0 installs the driver at a resolution of
  133.         640*480 pixel at 60Hz refresh.
  134.  
  135.         NOTE: With the installation of the Windows NT 4.0 driver,
  136.               the ELSA OpenGL driver is automatically installed.

  138. 2.3     Determining the Driver Version Number
  139.  
  140. 2.3.1   Determining the Driver Version Number via Display Properties
  141.  
  142.         From the Start menu, select "Settings" and in the Control
  143.         Panel launch "Display". Select the tab "Settings" and then
  144.         the button "Change configuration...". The following dialog
  145.         gives information about the manufacturer, the version
  146.         number and the current driver files.
  147.  
  148.         NOTE: If you see "Version Information missing ", you did
  149.               not set US English as the system language. This
  150.               problem will appear in all non-American NT
  151.               installations. This is a limitation of the
  152.               operating system.

  154. 2.3.2   Determining the Driver Version Number via the Driver Files
  155.  
  156.         Use the Explorer to inspect the file properties for one of
  157.         the files ESYNIIM.SYS or ESYNIID.DLL. The file ESYNIIM.SYS
  158.         can be found in the directory System32\Drivers, the *.DLL
  159.         file in the System32 directory of your Windows NT
  160.         installation.

  164. 3       Additional Configuration Options

  166. 3.1     Additional Tools
  167.  
  168. 3.1.1   ELSA WinmanSuite
  169.  
  170.         ELSA WinmanSuite is a tool which integrates in the taskbar
  171.         of your operating system. Klicking the mouse on the tray
  172.         icon, you will get quick access to all installed ELSA
  173.         utilities.
  174.  
  175. 3.1.2   ELSA Hotkeys
  176.  
  177.         Using the ELSA Hotkeys, you will now be able to define
  178.         shortcuts for certain actions. You can use this tool to
  179.         start frequently used programs, or to change the
  180.         arrangement of windows on your desktop. You will find this
  181.         tool as a tab in the display properties or as a menu item
  182.         in the WinmanSuite.
  183.         You will get a detailed description of the whole
  184.         functionality by clicking on the tool┤s help button.

  186. 3.1.3   ELSA Application Settings
  187.  
  188.         The ELSA Application Settings allow you to configure the 3D
  189.         options of your ELSA GLoria graphics board. You will find
  190.         this tool as a tab in the display properties or as a menu
  191.         item in the WinmanSuite.
  192.         You also will find a detailed description by clicking the
  193.         Help key.

  195. 3.1.4   ELSA Info
  196.  
  197.         ELSA Info offers a quick view of all relevant information
  198.         about your hard- and software configuration. First of all,
  199.         this is a diagnostic tool, which should help you in solving
  200.         configuration problems of your graphics system.
  201.         You can redirect all shown information to file or printer.
  202.         The generated output will be helpful in getting quick
  203.         and efficient support from ELSA.
  204.  
  205. 3.1.5   ELSA Settings
  206.  
  207.         The ELSA Settings (Winman) are a sort of "Control Center"
  208.         for the display driver. Here you can change the basic
  209.         display functionality, as there are resolution, colordepth,
  210.         refreshrate.
  211.         You are also able to configure your monitor. A detailed
  212.         description of all possible settings is available by
  213.         clicking the mouse on the question mark in the upper right
  214.         corner of the window, and then on the area you need help
  215.         for. Now you will get a message box with a short help. By
  216.         clicking "OK", you get a detailed help.
  217.  
  218. 3.1.6   ELSA ColorControl
  219.  
  220.         The ELSA ColorControl tool allows you to correct the color
  221.         reproduction of your monitor. You will find this tool as
  222.         a tab in the display properties or as a menu item in the
  223.         WinmanSuite.
  224.         You also will find a detailed description by clicking the
  225.         Help key.

  229. 4       Known Problems
  230.  
  231.         - On Pentium III systems your Windows NT 4.0 has to be
  232.           updated to support the Pentium III enhancements.
  233.           Please run the utility CheckPentiumIIISupport.exe
  234.           (shipped with this driver) to check if your system is
  235.           properly configured.
  236.         - On multiprocessor systems it may be necessary to install
  237.           Windows NT Service Pack 4 to get the driver started.
